Spay/Neuter

Spay and Neuter

The decision to spay or neuter a pet will be one of the most important decisions you make for your pet’s health and happiness. Getting your pet spayed or neutered reduces the number of homeless animals, unwanted behavior in your pet, improves your pet’s overall health and well-being.

The Spay/Neuter Clinic will be closed November 22-24 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Surgery Requirements and Information

All pets must be at least 8 weeks of age, weigh at least 2 lbs, and be in good health. We do not have additional charges for weight or in heat/pregnant females. We do not have an age cap for spay/neuter, but do recommend pre-op bloodwork be done at your regular vet if your pet is over 8 years of age.

We require written proof of a current Rabies vaccination for all cats and dogs over 12 weeks of age (a Rabies tag without written records is not sufficient.) If your pet is not current, we will administer a Rabies vaccination the day of your appointment for $10. We do not require any vaccinations for rabbits.

We recommend your pet be current on all vaccinations prior to their appointment including Rabies, DAPPv, and Bordetella for dogs; Rabies and FVRCP for cats. We can vaccinate your pet the day of your appointment, but vaccinations will take two weeks to start protecting your pet.

Our licensed veterinarians will perform a pre-operative exam before placing your pet under anesthesia; however, we are not able to perform a full physical examination. If you believe your pet has an ear/skin infection or other cause for concern please see your full service veterinarian. If your pet shows signs of illness or there are concerns such as heart murmur or obesity we may decline surgery if we feel there is a health risk.

The surgery price includes an injection of pain medication for all patients. Female rabbits will also receive a secondary dose of pain medication either given at the clinic or to take home. If our vets feel your pet will experience additional discomfort, we will prescribe additional medication for $5.

E-collars (cones) are strongly recommended for all pets and are available for $5.
