Humane Education In Action

Teaching Compassion: Humane Education in Our Local Schools

At the Humane Society of the Tennessee Valley, we believe compassion starts young. That’s why our Humane Education Program brings animal-focused learning straight into local classrooms and youth programs, teaching children how to treat animals with kindness, respect, and understanding.

We launched our program in January with a pilot at Dogwood Elementary, and the response was incredible. This summer, we’ve expanded to include Halls Elementary and Emerald Youth, reaching even more young minds through fun, interactive lessons. Topics include animal body language, responsible pet care, and how to be a compassionate advocate for animals.

And we’re not stopping there! This fall, we’ll be returning to Dogwood Elementary for after-school programming (they loved it so much, we’re coming back!) and expanding to two new schools: South Knox Elementary and Belle Morris Elementary.

Want to catch us in action? You can also find us at your local Karns Library on Thursday, July 17th at 3:00 PM, a great opportunity for kids and families to learn about animals in a fun, hands-on way.

By educating the next generation, we’re not just helping animals today—we’re building a more humane tomorrow.
